API Membership Magazine

API Victoria was responsible for the production of a quarterly magazine that would serve as the main communication tool to members over a 12-month period. In an effort to reduce costs, API Victoria, together with API South Australia and API Tasmania, used the opportunity to create a joint venture. After submitting the winning pitch, Fresh were engaged to manage the entire project; from design and layout, through to writing, editing content and production. With a single magazine, to be used across 3 states, it was important that it have a generic, all-encompassing appeal, as well as including pages dedicated specifically to the 3 individual states.

The Fresh solution involved creating a unique member magazine for
each state that incorporated interchangeable, state-specific content
in the middle insert, while retaining common articles and information
in the outer leafs. The existing magazine format was refreshed with an engaging new layout and structure, designed to enhance its readability and provide standardisation of advertising sizes and specifications. Multiple layouts were created for the written content pages to accommodate different types and length of content. As part of the redesign, the masthead and cover were revived to correspond with
the API lifeSMART strategy. This strategy further included the four,
key categories of liveSMART, driveSMART, buySMART and homeSMART, so it was necessary that the magazine follow this
structure and that signature colour palettes be used. The magazine
was successfully continued over a 2-year period, before being incorporated into the larger API NSW production.

API Leisure & Lifestyle has developed into Australia’s leading provider of employee and member benefits programs.
