City of Melbourne new logo

The City of Melbourne has launched a new corporate identity - a design reflecting a city recognised internationally for its diversity, innovation, sustainability and liveability.

Lord Mayor Robert Doyle says the new design will become an icon for Melbourne, synonymous with the modern, vibrant, cool city Melbourne is today and will continue to be in the future.

While we have no doubt that the old logo was due for a fresh change we do question a couple of things.

1) Why use a US agency when Melbourne is a hub of design?

2) How creative is it ? given that it looks like they have taken a photo of Fed Square and cut an M out of the image.

3) Is it really worth $240,000 in these auspicious times?
